Landscape info

Green Cay is a wonderful place. Typical Wetlands with a lot of Duckweed Cover. Small Hammock Islands
with a variety of different vegetation create different habitats for a wide variety of Wildlife

Wildlife Info

Throughout the Year Green Cay is worth a visit. The duckweed covered water areas offer a unique Canvas for images – and of course duckweed covered Gators, Turtles and Waterbirds.

Highlights

The place is full of Ducks – Black bellied Whistling Ducks, Teals, mottled Ducks, Moorhens, Coots, Purple Galinule, Turtles, Green Herons, Limpkin and so much more!

The good

Layout and cleanliness are very good. In the wintertime migrant birds add to the mix. Like Painted Buntings, Yellow rumped Warblers and other Songbirds.

The Downside

A little problematic for the avid photographer is the traffic. Lots of people use the boardwalk for recreation – and they often times are loud and scare animals away. Especially the weekends are pretty packed.
If that were not the case – it sure would have made the top grade.

Best time of day to visit

Early Morning. Great sunrise shots from the Visitor Center and the trail to the left. Sunsets are beautiful, too, but even during the day it does not get boring.

Best time of the year to visit

Late Fall to early spring is the best time to visit. Migrant Bird add to the resident population. But regardless of the season – Green Cay is a place you really don’t want to miss, when you’re in the area.

Excellent location, offering unique shot opportunities with it’s Duckweed cover over large areas. A good idea might be to avoid weekends and holidays for all the traffice
this beautiful place endures.
